Research topics

Cardio-respiratory physiology is the central research field of PRETA which groups physiologists, emergency clinicians and experts in medical device conception and signal processing.

The primary purpose of the team is the development of tools and methods for the extraction of information from physiological and pathophysiological data (models and uses).
The transdisciplinary approach we develop allows us to overcome methodological barriers and to propose innovative preclinical and clinical tools. This strategy is based on both a strong investment in tools and skills in animal experiments experimental platform for small animal surgery, veterinary surgery on large mammals) and physiological investigation on healthy subjects (platform of investigation on healthy volunteers), and the search for additional solutions from the collaboration with different laboratories from other areas of research (physics, chemistry, etc ...).

Finally, PRETA continues to be involved in several basic research projects in different fields of physiology such as nutrition, cardiac ischemia and signal processing.

Team strength

  • Multidisciplinary team whose research areas lead to transdisciplinary projects

  • Development of tools and methods for extracting physiological information

  • Development of research with a high potential of valorization

  • Strong involvement of team members in teaching

Research Programs
Research Programs

During the evaluated period, the team has been involved in three basic research contracts (2 ANR contracts and 1 European FP7 contract) including 1 as principal investigator (ANR Blanc Sybecar project), 4 applied research projects (1 with the Direction Generale de l’Armement and 3 with the Institut de REcherche sur les Boissons) and 4 projects of valorization and transfer of technology (2 with Grenoble Alpes Valorisation Innovation Technologies, 1 with SATT GIFT and 1 with the Fonds Européen de Développement Régional).

Projet Breath-Diag

Supervisor(s): Raphaël BRIOT
Contract: AGENCE NATIONALE DE LA RECHERCHE (ANR-15-CE18-0006) - UNIVERSITE GRENOBLE ALPES - [2015-2019]
Fast and sensitive breath analysis for medical diagnostics.

Projet e-SwallHome

Swallowing and Respiration : Modelling and e-Health at Home
Supervisor(s): Pierre-Yves GUMERY
Contract: AGENCE NATIONALE DE LA RECHERCHE (ANR-13-TECS-0011) - UNIVERSITE GRENOBLE ALPES - [2014-2017]
The project aims to explain the normal behavior of two coupled functions in human, swallowing and breathing, to better understand the etiology of the mechanisms underlying pathological behaviors of dysphagia, dyspnea and dysphonia, related to a brain stroke.
