Holder of a STAPS PhD thesis on the modeling of locomotor movements obtained in 2009 as part of a joint French-Italian PhD (Universities of Savoie and Trent), Fabien successively realized two post-docs, the first one (2010- 2011) in the Department of Biomechanics of the University of Nebraska (USA) and the second (2012-2017) in the Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience of the University of Aix-Marseille. His research activities during this post-doctoral period focused on the biological bases of human sensorimotricity and used experimental psychology, mathematical modeling and neuroimaging. In September 2017, Fabien was recruited as associate professor by Grenoble-Alpes University and joined the SPM team of the Laboratory.
His research project considers the links between cerebral connectivity, structural and functional, and certain motor functions such as anticipation and motor adaptation. The project's main ambition is to understand how brain networks reorganize as the individual improves motor skills, from short time scales (motor learning) to longer time scales (motor development). . This fundamental knowledge of the brain mechanisms that allow the harmonious development of our motor skills will also serve as a reference to the study of neurodevelopmental pathologies affecting not only the motor sphere but also by ricochet the educational and social spheres, such as psychomotor disorders and spectrum disorders. of autism.
In addition to his own scientific questioning, his research project will also be an opportunity to accumulate numerous multimodal brain imaging data (rMRI, cDNA, fMRI, EEG) that will feed collaborative platforms for sharing and processing brain images ( 'big data'). Fabien attaches great importance to the large-scale distribution of data to reproduce, consolidate and enrich our knowledge of the structure and functioning of the human brain, both typical and pathological, indispensable for innovation and medical progress.
